who we are was an adaptation of one of 7 door/drobes offered to become part of the arts trail at Ventnor Fringe 2025.
Who we Are was my intervention on a door/drobe construct offered to us to re-use as a site sepcific art trail for the Ventnor Fringe 2025.
This project was curated by myself and Teresa Grimaldi. You can read about the artists and events as they unfolded here 7 DOORS - IW Creative Network
My door sought to play with the structure to use the door as an oprning to see through the other side. I cut away the back and created a window panel inside the door / drobe so people could come and look through to see where we are…to invite visitors to take a second look at where we are. 2 people could also look through at each other and see We are the Same. As I had contact with the charity Hope and Play, I decided to use the open end as a feature to promote their tireless work providing creative sessions for displaced children in Gaza. It struck me a year prior that the way we see our common humanity is through the eyes of the children,…and that the drawings of all children are remarkably similar no matter where they may live in the world. So..We are the Same began to operate as a potent statement and reflection of how we engage with awful things that were happeingin across the world…and how we as a nation, our politics remained silent.
The back open end was ( mistakenly) installed facing away from the path and at its most powerful moments, it stands as a testament to the silence and our feelings of helplessness. I am still working with others to share drawings and questions and forge links.
