who we are was an adaptation of one of 7 door/drobes offered to become part of the arts trail at Ventnor Fringe 2025.

7 DOORS
A Site-Specific Art Trail at Ventnor Fringe 2025, co-curated with Teresa Grimaldi.

7 artists were invited to take a pre made / used before large door / drone 96 x 48 x 36inches, and make interventions using their doors in response to the place and context that was Ventnor Fringe 2025.

The responses included sound collection and reverb, radio/ interview broadcast, interactive soft sculpture, community created painting, access the unusable life vest, turn detective to find the Sandown Clown….. . More can be found at: www.instagram.com/7_door_trail.

Who we Are was my interpretation of using the door.. utilising the function of the door into a window, into a space to look through and notice… the back half was cut away and opened up and painted gloss white. This white side became a canvas where I fixed real drawings sent to us from the displaced children in Gaza… and support to the Hope and Play charity.

What happened once the door had been installed onsite became a very difficult and incredibly potent symbol of people choosing not to engage with the bright side that’s always there ( the people in Palestine).. to walk by… to face it away.. yet it was always there.

From the front the door may be closed… another huge metaphor of silence in the face of Zionism and genocide.

And personally… my and many of us who feel so shocked and incapable to help and stop the suffering.

Like all my recent work. The idea, the installation and the reality embraced the work/ intervention and defined the work itself… as I had to let go and observe.

This was by far the most difficult and emotionally stumping piece .
