..revising old strands…
I aim to have a dedicated workspace/ studio next year. This year has been a nomadic existence and I have had to take time to immerse myself into aspects of my practice that make it what it is. Time to explore and learn more about elements of my work rather than work with the whole.
I know that trust is everything and I - perhaps luckily- did reach a point of complete trust that my work will always work. It was and is amazing to reach that point.
Patience… which is not a natural element of who I am .. has been so very important as well. I have to be patient… that all the re-thinking, research, and reacquainting myself with specific strands of my practice takes time but work that will only deepen the layers of meaning once I begin to pull these strands together in symphonies of complete work outputs. That all areas of my practise can be pulled together with various inflections and priorities when the time comes and they will sing their own identities, knowledge and share beauty.
Without a base to work from I have tried to re-learn these different strands… as I purposefully worked with different aspects of painting when I returned from the hiatus @5 years ago. Now, instead of literal aspects I have been played with play.. I play to work.. play is such a natural way to create and make and be.. that for many years I forgot I did it. Play as a natural sharer, giver and joy of being. …a star of play is probably the most inclusive, empowering, individual action we can engage with for healthy growth, processing, love and connection.
I have been Writing.. and learning the conditions that facilitate the most satisfying flows. I have also learnt that I can learn through writing itself… as I learn best by making and doing.. I was pleasantly surprised to discover new connections to ideas from the act of writing itself.
And yet, despite having no studio, nor rhythms of consistency of place, routine, of knowing… I have 3 ( exhibitions) in the next 2 months.
Where we are / PhotoFringe 2026.. is a 2 week space where I am exploring and relearning the impact photography and taking photos ( seeing)? Has affected my work all through my life. I know I have always taken photos.. and now I’m asking why.. to what purpose.. where do they sit within the echelons of Photography. I like how I can bring myself into new areas of learning..right back to the very start as context and angle of understanding shifts.
So yes, Where We Are will be live, and participatory as it is based on equitable learning.. I don’t know the answers but we can find out together.
Warp and Weft is an exhibition in the Bond Street Gallery, Brighton. It’s of a very good calibre! I will be creating some form of shadow from gesture, light and place. I’m vey thankful to be a part of this.
PLay at the Lock In gallery will be with 2artists .. to play, install our work..and see how it lands.
