I was and am very proud to have provided a play session at this years CounterPlay festival at the Design School in Kolding, Denmark.
3 days of generosity, equity of being and just joy. You could be mistaken to think play is for children or for silly adults but of course in fact, for us to play as adults we can benefit with time for ourselves, time to consider and to process to be and to do. It seems such a simple ask…but sprinklings from Counterplay and all play ideas for us grown ups is a sure way we can make sure love, joy and hope can live together in this world we find ourselves in…seems simple right..that with respect we can thrive.
I wont write too much here now, just that I was almost over struck at the different types of play / as adults manifested. In my tiny world of being I am confident that playing as a way to Make and as a way to connect with each other, with creative problem solving and expression…well, it is for all of us and to me with Trust,,we can all find a way to do this and so …to play. At COUNTERPLAY people came from politics, academia, dance, drama, IT…education… so many different careers and lives all finding ways we can share and play. I think my surprise was the variety and realising how lucky I am to play to work. Others possibly have to carve time away from work to play…
So..what does play mean to you? Is it virtual or board game based, sports, do you play cards? Does play have to have rules / boundries? Where would you play and how often? or is it ‘just silly’? Is there a virtue in silliness? And…if we learn from our children whos right it is to play..a healthy way of processing the world and a safe space to learn…then how can you implement this into your / family / friends / community?
