I have been trying to work with the drawings from the Palestinian children in Gaza for 2 years now, as I realised we see our common humanity from the mouths of babes…a child’s drawing one one side of the world is similar in style to that of another,,,a drawing made by a child who lives in pure hell, witnessing unimaginable horrors will be similar to that made of a child in any other country. Children draw what they see, their friends and families, their hopes and wishes and draw to explain, dream and to process. The children show us our humanity.

The people who organised the exhibition in Lewes were so very warm and we re-created some of the drawings made by children in Gaza onto transparent materials. We hung them across the window and ( knowing how I work ...) the drawings fluttered and became kites. Shadows cast from drawings, materials flying high. Had we not worked this way this wouldnt have happened. The work was then brought togtehr and hung together as a mobile..still moving and flutering in the early Autumn breeze.

To me, this work was so powerful. We are now transferring drawings from every child, and will announce where you can come and see them soon. Image credit: @aya_habboush1
