Working in the High Street enables me to bring ‘painting’ into the public realm. We do not have to see art in cultural places only. Everyone is entitled to express themselves visually and visual communication is a vital understanding we all have. I like to re-connect people to using paint …as most people know of paint either from education and / or work. Most people enjoy making their marks with paint.
I paint a response to place and context from the inside of the window. I then invite the publoic to visually respond by making their own marks with paint. Its impertive people understand my work, so I encourage the expeience of paint-ing as we understand more through experience rather than reading or seeing alone. Deciding what colour, what mark, what size, what tool to use may seem small but it enables people to understand and be a part of the whole work.
And…of course….I love the magic that happens…inside/ outside , internal / external, experience / less experience, object/ statement , and the wonderful collision of painted marks that sit together, a visual rich dialogue of mark and paint.
